First up, and most importantly, thanks to each and every customer who dined at Salmon & Bear in 2018. We truly appreciate your decision to dine with us, and we sincerely hope we met your expectations.

It was a wild ride in 2018 and sadly we closed our Newtown restaurant. But, we learned a lot from that experience which, we feel has helped us improve the S&B concept.

The rise of home delivery platforms is perhaps our biggest challenge to date, as more customers seek convenience over dining out.

Unfortunately, and we believe many of you may not know this but UberEats and Deliveroo, on top of the $5 delivery fee you pay, take 30% of the revenue. Whilst we are not against customers having the choice to use these platforms, we have noticed a sharp increase in the ratio of home delivery vs dining in.

With 30% of the revenue heading oversees, it's ripping a billion dollar hole in the Australian restaurant economy.

So, before we tell you about some exciting news for the future of S&B we'd like to ask one thing of you all in 2019...

Make an effort to dine out at your favourite restaurants on a regular basis. Yes, from time to time, order takeaway via home delivery but for the very best experience, dine out. The food will be just as it should be and 1/3 of the revenue isn't heading overseas.

Ok - now that we have gotten that off our chest, we can talk about what's new and coming up for S&B in 2019...
Firstly, we made the switch from counter to table service over 6 months ago. Our amazing team have risen admirably to the challenge and your response to the new personal service has been super positive so that is here to stay!

We have now introduced the option to book tables of any size online as we know it provides peace of mind and helps planning nights out a little easier (Click here to book).

New menu - we have been working on this change for some time and it's a big one. Finally, after four years, there will finally be BEAR on the menu!

Don't panic bear lovers - not in the literal sense - we are introducing a selection on meat dishes to our menu. Whilst we'll remain predominantly a fish restaurant, we will be using the mighty Mibrasa oven to impart some chargrilled flavour to some meaty plates.

We're opening a new store! After the closure of our Newtown restaurant we know what you must be thinking - but we're not mad. Ok, we might be, but we strongly believe in S&B and want to take our unique spin on quality, smart, casual seafood dining to more people. We are going north of the bridge, Salmon & Bear Crows Nest is due to open early 2019 so please spread the good word.

As we look forward to 2019 we are so, so thankful to you guys who make it all possible so thank you again and we hope to see you soon for some bear hospitality.
